Ishan and I went to Lakeshore Learning this morning. They do free crafts every Saturday. Today they were doing a Thankful Turkey. Here are the things Ishan is thankful for, in the order he listed them:

Not So Sick Day

Ishan was coughing quite a bit during the middle of the night, so I kept him home today.  However, something  tells me this kid might not be as sick as I thought!

Model on Strike

It's been a while since I last post so I thought I would try to take some pictures tonight. However, my subject didn't feel like cooperating. 

Best.Project.Ever

Ishan has been asking me if we could do a Halloween art project together. So, today we went to Michael's and picked out a fake pumpkin and a bunch of other supplies. We had so much fun decorating the pumpkin together and when we were done he declared it "the best project ever"!

Yesterday we were driving to my apartment and Ishan was telling me which way to go. As we approached the complex, I asked if I should go in the right gate or the left gate. The conversation went a little like this...

Ishan- Go in the left gate
Rushina- OK.
Ishan- Is that right?
Rushina- No, it's left.
Ishan- Is it the right gate?
Rushina- No, it's the left gate.
Ishan- No, is the left gate the right gate.
Rushina- (trying not to laugh) No, the left gate is the left gate
Ishan- MOMMY!!
Rushina- Oh, do you mean is the left gate the correct gate?
Ishan- YES!!! Was it correct?
Rushina- Yes.
Ishan- Phew...

This morning I was doing work while Ishan was eating breakfast and I realized that my team member made a HUGE mistake....

Rushina- Crap, crap, crap, crap
Ishan- Mommy, why did you say "crack"?
Rushina- I didn't say "crack".
Ishan- Yes, you did. You said "crack, crack, crack, crack".
Rushina- No, I said "quack".
Ishan- Why did you say "quack, quack, quack quack"?
Rushina- Because I am a duck
Ishan- No, you're not. Mommy, you are a human

Are You Ready For Some Football??

I started yesterday with a cup of coffee and watching Penn State. This morning Ishan and I cleared the furniture so we could play AND watch football. This is my kind of Sunday and one of my favorite things about Fall. Now if it could only get under 100 degrees....

No Place Like Home

Tonight at my complex, they had a dive-in move at the pool. The movie was "Home" and they had popcorn and candy for the kids. Needless to say, Ishan  had a blast swimming, eating and watching the flick. 

Breakfast of Champions!

After sleeping for 12 hours, Ishan came out of his room and said "I took a nice long nap!" He also declared that he was "super hungry", so I made him his new favorite breakfast, duck in a pond with a side of bacon. 

This afternoon we are going to a friend's house for a pool party and bbq, so I'm thinking he's in for another 12 hour nap tonight. 

I am my Father's Daughter

Ishan has been learning to write his letters. He can write his name but has difficulty with other letters. So, I bought him a workbook and he practiced tracing different letters while I made dinner tonight. He actually loved doing it. I am guessing math problems are not too far behind!

Bath Time Fun!

Ishan and I are going to Lisa's house for dinner tonight so I gave him a bath in the afternoon just in case we were running late getting home. Ishan had a blast putting soap all over his face and for the first time in a long time, he was eager to get his picture taken. I think he just wanted to look at his silly face. That boy can always bring a smile to my face!

Belly Up to the Bar

Ishan loves sitting at the bar to eat. This morning he had a little iPad time while I made his eggs. He is really enjoying my new place. His favorite things are the pool and splash pad, of course. This Thursday, the complex has a dive-in movie at the pool. They are showing "Home" which is a new favorite of Ishan's. 

Father's Day

Raj started the day with a Scotch and ended the day with a nap while I took Ishan to a Birthday party. All in all, it was a good day!

Five More Minutes

The other night I was up late working. So when Ishan came in at 6 am, I wasn't quite up yet. Raj was traveling for work, so I told Ishan to lay down for a few minutes. He said he just slept all night and wasn't tired. He finally laid down and within minutes he fell back asleep. He slept while I showered and got ready. I finally woke him at 7:40 and he said "Mommy, I'm tired. Five more minutes!"

It's a bird, it's a plane, it's super Ishy!

Ishan needed some new shorts, so we headed to the Old Navy outlet store. Ishan loves going to the outlet mall because they have this bungee jump thing for kids. He kept asking to go "super high"! After shopping we took him to Rainforest Cafe for lunch. Being there made me miss the times I was there with Javin. Ishan, too, thought it was funny that the frog's name is Cha Cha. 

Yuck!

Ishan got sick in the middle of the night, but  he seems to be feeling better now. I've spent the morning doing laundry and trying to get the stink out of his room. Oh, the joys of Mommyhood. Ishan spent the morning watching "Toy Story 3" with his friends. 

Movin' On Up

Ishan had his first full day in Pre-K. He was a little sad at drop off in the new classroom but he quickly adjusted and had a great day. This is his second week of swim camp and he is doing great! I've seen a huge improvement in just five classes. 

It's Getting Hot in Here

The past two months have been beautiful and the weather has been been awesome. This is the first week it's going to be consistently in the 100s. Today the high is 108, so we need to get our outdoor activities done early in the day. Ishan and I started the day with a walk to Starbucks and then he played on our patio for a while. 

Pimp My Yard

Our yard is done and everyone is so excited, including Ishan. We have had random people stop by to take pictures!

The color of the grass is that of the pic of the back yard. The front looks different in the pic because of the light. 

Ishan Siri

My awesome Mother's Day gift arrived on Friday. I wasn't sure what I thought about the Apple Watch at first, but after watching some videos and playing around with it, I have to say it's pretty cool. Ishan has enjoyed looking at it and watching me test everything out. I think he's gotten the hang of it, because last night I heard him say "Hey, Siri, play Little Bunny Foo Foo!" 

Dog Gone It

Javin sent Ishan a card for his 2nd birthday and Ishan still has it. It plays "Who Let the Dogs Out". Even though the cover is ripped in half, the song still plays. I can't say that I'm a huge fan of the song, especially when played over and over, but I love that Javin drew in it and I'm sure I'll be hanging on to it. 

Camas or Bust

I told Ishan we were going to visit Javin and he was very excited. He asked if we could go now and when I said the trip wasn't for a while, he said "Why won't you let me see Javin?" So, I explained how our plane tickets are for another day and that we'll have to wait to go on the trip. So, he asked if we could make a calendar like the one we did for his birthday. Lastly he said "Can we have tacos?" I said "Today?" He said "No, can we have tacos when we visit Javin." I am sure  Niravmama will be more than happy to accommodate that request. He also said "Mommy, can you bring letters and pipe cleaners for me and Javin to play with?" Like Ishan, I am also counting down....

Sunday Funday

After a great brunch with Amma, Ishan and I settled in for an afternoon showing of Ishan's new favorite movie,Toy Story. There's nothing better than Mother's Day cuddles.

Don't Squeeze the Charmin

We were talking about Mother's Day and Ishan told me that he knew what he wanted to give me....toilet paper. He then said he wanted to give some to his grandparents too.  What a thoughtful kid. Ishan took his first selfie this morning using the timer on my phone. Not bad...

Supper Time

Ishan requested one of his favorite meals for dinner tonight, White Bean and Kale Ravioli with Ham and Asparagus. He then  told me that we need to have tacos tomorrow since it's Taco Tuesday. I thought maybe he heard about it at school, but, no, apparently his source is The Lego Movie. "Everything is Awesome!" It might be time to bring veggie tacos to The Suri House.

 

Change of Face

My usually smiley kid wasn't in the mood to get his picture taken. It might have been the fact that by 8 am, we had walked to Whole Foods, Starbucks and had played at home. His hair was getting long, so I thought it was time to get it cut short as summer is quickly approaching. I'm sure Niravmama will approve. 

What's Up, Doc?

Ishan had his four year check up today. Hard to believe my five and a half pound baby is a forty pound four year old. Of course, he was all smiles during the appointment...well, until the shots. 

For the Birds

Today was the first time a MLB game was played without anyone in attendance. I thought the Orioles could use a little support even from afar. Looks like it did the trick as the Orioles won. 

Fabulous at Four!

Random things Ishan said today:

"Can you play Ghangam Style for my birthday?"

"Mommy, do you know Korean?"

Ishan weighed himself today and was an even 40 pounds so he kept saying "I'm four zero zero today."

Ishan passed out cupcakes to his class today. The kids kept telling him which ones they wanted and he said "We get what we get and we don't throw a fit!"

After such a busy weekend, we are looking forward to a low key celebration with our birthday boy. 

Homeward Bound

After a busy and fun few days, it's time to head back. Ishan is so excited for tomorrow. 

My Boy Likes to Party All the Time

Ishan was grinning from ear to ear yesterday. He had a blast at his party and loved the bounce house. The highlight was watching Jay and Raj play duck

duck goose with all of the kids. 

Da Plane! Da Plane!

We're off to Maryland to celebrate Ishan's 4th Birthday. Ishan was super excited this morning, despite having to get up at 3:30 for a 6 AM flight. Ciao!

Hey, Mikey! He Likes it!

Ishan hates cold food.  There are few exceptions to that rule, the main one being ice cream. We have been trying to get Ishan to eat the pasta salad at school, but he won't even try it because it's cold. Last month, after a very long pep talk, he finally decided to try it. Turns out that was the first time they served it warm. Of course, he liked it. Well, they had it again today and it was served cold. Ishan's teacher sent me this picture. I guess we'll be singing the song we rehearsed for this monumental occasion "Yippee! Hooray! I tried pasta salad today!"

Breakfast for Dessert

Ishan had Chicken Enchiladas for dinner and followed that up with some cheesy eggs for dessert. 

Out and About

We spent most of the weekend hanging out with Patty and Shinz. We went to their house yesterday and when we first got there, Ishan asked where the kids were. Patty asked him why he thought they would have kids and he replied "Because you got married." I have one word to sum up that kid.....

We Goin' Sizzler!

OK, not really. It's more like "We Goin' Chili's". Ishan had another great day at school, so we celebrated by having a date night at his happy place. 

Consequences

Ishan has had a rough few days at school this week. He hasn't been listening to his teachers and has been disruptive in class. This is not like him, so we have had a lot of conversations about expectations and consequences. He has not been allowed to watch TV or his iPad this week as a result. This morning on the way to school, I told him that today was a new day and he had another chance to make good choices. Well, he was all smiles when I picked him up and said "I had a great day! Are you happy, Mommy?". Yes, I am. Very.
